Bot Blocker
Currently, the web is full of various bots and crawlers, which collect information from your website later used for the search engines and different open-source projects. While there are some useful bots and crawlers, such as Google, Yahoo, Bing as well as crawlers of popular search engines, there are also malicious and useless bots, which overload your server and reduce your website page load.
How it works
The bot blocker plugin targets only malicious or commercial crawlers and prevents them from accessing your website. When a bot tries to open any of your website page, instead, it encounters a 403 Forbidden page error, which prevents the bot from making further queries to your website server.
Front End
The plugin is entirely intended for the Administrator and does not interact with users of your website in the front end; however, your users will most certainly feel the benefits of the plugin by getting a quicker response from your website since it will not be overloaded with repeated and unnecessary queries.
Back End
The plugin is fairly simple and straightforward, once installed, it adds a configuration manager to the admin panel of your website, which you may find in Basic Settings. Taking into account the simplicity of the plugin, it offers only a couple of settings: the first one allows you to either enable/disable the plugin.
The second setting gives you a text area, in which undesired/malicious bots are listed separated by a comma. The plugin comes pre-configured with a list of bad bots already there, you may go over them and remove the ones you think are useful or add other crawlers to which you wish to block access to your website. The plugin is essential for all classifieds sites; therefore, we made it from to all customers.
